music video progress... (#10)

Despite me coming down with a really nasty cold, this past weekend we took a roadtrip up to North Carolina to shoot some scenes for the music video. We all stayed at Kyle's parents place and lucked out in finding a horse ranch. Martha warmed up the owner and we quickly got in for some great action shots and closeups. We also managed to knock out the well and axe scenes. Next up is the darkroom.

music video progress... (#9)

This past weekend we made huge headway - we shot the bedroom wakeup scene (above), typewriter lyrics, and grave digging scenes. This weekend we're going on a roadtrip to South Carolina to film the highway intro/outro and impending doom shots. Mucho kudos to Dan who set up all of the lighting to make everything look simply amazing.

music video progress... (#7)

Yesterday we found the perfect location to shoot the bedroom scene...

We also discussed the intro animation and decided to go with the 1st board option. Before I start work on the animation though, we need to film a 30 second clip on a forest road to overlay the illustration on top of, so I'm planning on filming that scene along with most of the doomsday scenes at Providence Canyon State Park or Rocktown this weekend.

music video progress... (#6)

Below are the first round of title sequence storyboards for the Cassavetes music video. We're going for a modern Saul Bass style of animation. I'll be adding more throughout the week. We're shooting the first scenes on Sunday.

greenscreen progress...

So removing the wrinkles from the screen was easier than I thought. First I ironed it, then rigged medium binder clips and rubber bands to stretch it out. Next comes the hardest part - the lights.

keeping busy

Last night I set up a 12x10 ft chroma key screen in the gallery. I still need to iron out the wrinkles, buy a couple of side lights, and invest in a softbox. My goal is to be up and running by the 1st of the year.

music video progress... (#5)

Just found out an amazing new feature in Final Cut Pro 6 called "Smooth Cam" which automatically stabilizes shaky footage! So basically no need for an expensive clunky GlideCam. Here's a great little tutorial on how it works.

music video progress... (#4)

Our main goal right now is to find a small bedroom to film the main scenes. Ideally it will have stunning wallpaper, something along the lines of Lotta K, Nama Rococo, or Flavor style.

music video progress... (#1)

I started earlier this month collaborating with my friends Martha (amazing copywriter) and Robbie (lead guy in the band) to create an music video for the Cassavetes. The song is "Night of the Knife".

The lyrics have been divided up into individual scenes...

Next is a rough timeline, idea board, listing out dream states, and locations needed...
