Processing x1000

Check out these killer bumps created by Nervo for Fox Japan. Collaborating with Processing artist Robert Hodgin to create a complex flock of birds entangled in strings. He utilized a single bird cycle that Nervo used to create an application that allowed them to control and generate animations of the flock in an intricate flight dance. After some compositing and styling these animations became the identity of the channel's horror segment. The music and sound design were created by Darrin Wiener aka Plastiq Phantom.

For more info on Processing, details on it's release from beta this week and new features check out this blog entry.

Happy Turkey Day

I'm back from the holiday break, had a nice Thanksgiving with family and friends, and can't wait to get back to work. The next project I'm working on is purely kinetic type driven and is based on early Soviet Era poster designs, so here are a few profiles I've dug up for my search for inspiration...

AceJet170's and Erik Nitsche's flickr photostream is a great typographic resource, Eva Eun-Sil Han has an amazing experimental geometric framework to her work and A Soviet Poster A Day (which trailed off last year) is still a great blog.

After working on the first two videos for SATURDAYS=YOUTH with Matthew Frost (Graveyard Girl) and Eva Husson (Kim&Jessie), M83 is now extending an open call to fans to submit their best video interpretations of "We Own The Sky", their latest single from SATURDAYS=YOUTH. The competition will be launched today on Pitchfork, the leading US indie music site. Anyone who wants to submit an entry has until January 20, 2009 to produce a video for "We Own the Sky" and upload it onto the youtube contest page youtube.com/group/m83. This is one of my favorite releases this past year and the song is amazing. Good luck!

Ryan McLennan

Great interview over at Fecal Face!

Of Montreal

Hushpuppy Gallery is evolving...

...we took the sign down so that makes it official, I guess. This past year the gallery has been open has been great fun for Erin and I, met alot of great artists and people, now on to bigger and better things! Right now we’re looking into a more “collective creative” space, I’m thinking a screen printing setup and possibly a darkroom, but that could change… we’re looking for a space with a somewhat large work area…

Photoshoot

Last week I met up with Erin and her team of stylists over at Crimpers for a photoshoot in the Historic Oakland Cemetery. This was just a quick preview of whats to come, need some more time to edit the photos.

I have a new blog!... actually it's a log...

Check it out here - jasondrakeford.tumblr.com/

This is more of a log than a blog, basically I'll be posting on what I've been up to, personal projects, work, photography, etc. If you've never had a blog before I would highly recommend Tumblr! It's super easy and really fun to use.
